Year-End Holiday Closure

Like the rest of Cal Poly Pomona, I&IT closes Christmas Eve, December 24, at noon and reopens at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009.

During the holiday vacation, I&IT will respond to interruptions of these critical services only:

- BroncoDirect
- Campus Electronic Mail
- Internet Connectivity through the campus network
- Blackboard.

If you suspect outages of the above services during the holiday break and do not see your issue noted here within two hours, contact Public Safety at 909-869-3070 to report the problem. Public Safety will then contact the appropriate I&IT staff member who can rectify the disruption.

I&IT will respond as soon as possible. Exceptions will be:

- From 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) through 8:00 a.m. December 26.
- From 6:00 p.m. New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) through noon New Year's Day (Jan. 1). This is so our staff can enjoy the holidays with their families and friends.

Please note that we will respond only to SYSTEM issues with the above services and not end-user desktop/laptop, user Internet Service Provider or other local problems.

The university's Internet Service Provider (ISP), CENIC, has reported it has fixed the connectivity issues with Charter Communications. Anyone using charter.net as their ISP should no longer experience problems connecting to campus computing services such as BroncoDirect, Blackboard and Outlook Web Access.

December 17th, 2008

Charter Communications is currently having problems connecting to Cal Poly Pomona and other CSU campuses. If you access the internet through Charter Communications, and are unable to reach BroncoDirect, Blackboard, or Outlook Web Access, please try from another computer that does not use Charter for access. Charter subscribers may be able to obtain more information from Charter Communications customer support.

October 1st, 2008

On Thursday evening, October 9, 2008, I&IT will be performing required system maintenance activities, impacting a number of campus services. The following applications and services will be unavailable on Thursday October 9th from 9:30 p.m.until 10:30 p.m.:
• My Control Panel for password changes
• Public Schedule of Classes
• Virtual Private Network (new connections)
• Data Warehouse (DW) applications, including Finance Web Tools and DW reports
• Campus Wireless Network (CPP only, Guest access will still be available).

September 17th, 2008

Because of maintenance at the California State University's data center, BroncoDirect will be unavailable on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, from 12:01 a.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Also, because of maintenance at the Cal Poly Pomona data center,the following services will be unavailable until 9:00 a.m. on 9/21/08:

-Blackboard (off-line 12:01 a.m. until 9:00 a.m)
-Campus Wireless network (off-line 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.)
-The university's Virtual Private Network (off-line 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.)
-Connect (off-line 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.)
-My Control Panel (off-line 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.)
-Data Warehouse (off-line 12:01 a.m. until 9:00 a.m)
-Email sending for users who authenticate through Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) (off-line 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.).

Please note SMTP email users can still send email during the outage using Outlook Web Access (https://exchange.csupomona.edu).

August 14th, 2008

On Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, I&IT will be upgrading the campus telephone system from 8:00 a.m. to noon. During the upgrade, all campus phone lines and voice mail service will be inoperative. Callers telephoning individual campus extensions will receive a steady, "double busy" signal during the outage.

August 1st, 2008

BroncoDirect self services are available following a restoration of services at the CMS Salt Lake City data center.
Because of an outage at the CMS Salt Lake City data center, BroncoDirect self services are temporarily unavailable.

June 12th, 2008

BroncoDirect self services are available following a restoration of services at the CMS Salt Lake City data center.
Because of an outage at the CMS Salt Lake City data center, BroncoDirect self services are temporarily unavailable. It is expected that service will be restored by 4:00 pm today.

June 10th, 2008

I&IT will be replacing one of two standby Exchange "back-end" servers on June 12, 2008, at 9:30 p.m. About one-third (12,000) users of the campus Exchange email service will experience temporary unavailability during the maintenance, which should be completed by 10:00 p.m. the same evening.

March 19th, 2008

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., maintenance will occur at the CSU's central data center. This could cause intermittent connectivity interruptions during this time for users of BroncoDirect.

March 18th, 2008

BroncoDirect and PeopleSoft systems have been restored to service. Personnel from I&IT will monitor the systems to ensure that they continue to perform normally.
Personnel at CMS (Common Management System, the systemwide office in charge of PeopleSoft for the CSU) are still working to identify and fix the problem. BroncoDirect may be available, but cannot access PeopleSoft services.
Problems with the central data center for PeopleSoft and BroncoDirect have caused the systems to be unavailable.

February 11th, 2008

Central PeopleSoft systems are back online, and access to BroncoDirect has been restored.

The BroncoDirect outage is the result of a failure in the central PeopleSoft system; it appears that all campuses are affected. CSU technical staff are working on the problem, and an updated status is expected around 2pm.

Because of problems with the central data systems, BroncoDirect is currently unavailable. The problems are being actively investigated at this time.

February 7th, 2008

On Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, Blackboard weekly maintenance will take place from 2:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. rather than the normal 2:00 a.m. to 4:15 a.m. time. During this extended time, I&IT will be upgrading hardware capacity. We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding.

January 23rd, 2008

The hardware failure causing inaccessibility to the Windows file sharing structure has been repaired. All Win domain users should be able to access their network share files. Performance may be slightly impacted for the next few hours. Users are advised to try a re-boot of their computers if this occurs. Further questions should be directed to the Help Desk at 909.869.6776.
